Albert Nii Nortey Dowuona
?My name is Albert Nii Nortey Dowuona. I was born in Accra, Ghana. Painting is my art form. My friends say I'm investigative, analytical, and a fast worker. In senior high, I took a course in painting and had a very good teacher who introduced us to it. I started enjoying painting in senior high, and later took in a painting course in college. The ability to mix colors is what fascinated me about this art form.

?I am very disciplined and dedicated to my art. I feel like I have to do everything on my own, and I feel proud about this. I remember being giving a school project to paint Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. I procrastinated, and before long the closing date for my submission was only a few days away. I tried several times, but I wasn't satisfied. I had to totally change the artwork, materials, support, techniques, and approach. Then, it only took a few hours to finish the work, and I earned an ?A' in that course. It was a humbling experience for me.

?To master this art, I have learned how to use different media and learned about their different characteristics and properties. I use acrylic paint on canvas. I find it easy to work with these materials. I buy my materials from a local art shop.

?What I imagine visually changes constantly. This is what I find most challenging about my art. I change my mind very easily, especially when I am just starting a painting. I can restart a piece many times and end abruptly at any point, fearing that I will spoil it if I should revisit it.

?My inspiration comes from the motifs or the subjects that I paint. Usually my inspiration comes from memories of experiences involving my subjects. When my interest in the subject begins to decline, I stop working on the painting. I don't visit the piece again until my interest in the subject is renewed. I work alone, but I keep an eye out for creativity in any artist that could help me create my art.?
