"I'm Alexander from Accra, in Ghana, my craft is woodcarving, and my hopes and dreams in life are to become the best artisan, and set a record amongst the best. I also dream of becoming a great pastor.

"My friends describe me as a humble, hardworking and a good adviser. My craft has developed to the point that now I teach the youth in my community to use their God-given talents, and also about the nature and culture of their own motherland.

"I learned how to carve from a master carver called Johnny. It took me three months to complete my training. To learn and master this art, I had to tolerate people and be humble with my master but above all, I had the determination to learn and develop my skills.

"A difficult moment in my life which I am proud to have overcome was when I had an assurance from my Pastor that he would help me with the shipment of my carved works as soon as I completed them. I called him when I had produced a large quantity, but his phone would not connect. This went on for three months and the goods were stored in Ghana. I had spent a lot to make these carvings, so I was left with no other option than to sell them at the lowest price. I managed to make only a small profit though.

"On the other hand, one of the funniest moments in my life, one that made me laugh, was when my wife played a prank on me. She told me she had a surprise for me and then a man called me and told me to wait for him at a junction near my house. I stood there for almost three hours but he didn't show up. Later he called to tell me he was at my house and the moment I arrived, my wife told me he had just stepped outside. The moment I went outside I saw this little boy standing there and when he turned round I realized it was my youngest son. He was the one pretending to be the man! I laughed my heart out to the extent that I couldn't breathe.

"I get my inspiration from God, through dreams. I always get new ideas from Him because I am a man of prayer who meditates a lot. Nature and culture inspire me too, and help me turn my dreams into a reality. It wasn't easy when I started on my own, but I believe I was guided by God.

"The materials I use for work are polish, sandpaper, clay and wood. My favorite part of my work is the finishing. The most challenging part is when, on occasion, I get hurt from some of the tools I use.

"I talk to God whenever I start to work. I craft and design on my own, because I tend to be doing both simultaneously when I'm working."
