"At the age of 20, I got married and moved with my husband to a different community. Two years later, my mother-in-law gave me the idea of working in clay. At the time, we were living with her and she didn't have a formal job.

"I'm from a very humble family. So I decided to start working in clay. I learned together with my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law. We took courses from other artisans and got better at it every day.

"I began to participate in fairs and, little by little, my husband and I began building our own house. We now have three daughters and today, we have a house thanks to my ceramic art.

"I'm very happy I'm an artisan because this work has helped me acquire many things we've needed. For me, the work is therapeutic.

"I work here in my home.

"I plan to teach the craft to my daughters. I'll pass everything I've learned to the new generation. Right now, they work with me, and hurry to help paint the figurines as soon as they get home from school.

"I have many friends throughout Brazil and the world. I've been recognized through my ceramics and I'm one of the people responsible for the Association do Artisans of Santana of Aracuai, where I represent women craftspeople."
