Herlina
"I'm Herlina van Tojo, born in 1975 in Brebes, Yogyakarta. I love Yogya for its beauty and our unique culture, evident in its classic buildings and foods.

"I am the fourth of seven children. Our father was a government worker while our mother owned a medical store.

"I had an interest in art and painting from a very young age. Until this day, I still have a strong bond with art and painting even though my parents were not very supportive of it. One day in elementary school, my mother had forbidden me to participate in an art competition. I did anyway and I eventually took first prize.

"At the age of 24, I started working at the medical store with my mother, and I have experience in working in design studios, hotels and cruise lines, both in Java and Bali.

"When I resigned from a hotel in Bali, I was jobless for a while and those were hard times. Luckily, I found a job at a cruise line after that.

"I am single and I love to cook. My friends and relatives know me as a perfectionist, a quiet woman who nonetheless loves to joke around.

"I love all kinds of visual arts, though I love drawing on paper the most. I find inspiration in relaxation and sometimes the ideas pop into my mind when I take a shower or bath. I feel most at peace when I apply my brush to canvas.

"My artwork shows the culture and ethnic spirit of Yogyakarta. It won an award in the special region of Yogyakarta, with my painting on the front cover of the catalog. It has also been shown in environmental events such as the 2016 campaign to prevent the extinction of orangutans.

"My favorite quote is from my country's first president, Bung Karno, who said, 'Success is not from what you have in the end. It's the process to the end that counts.'"
