Latest Update

?My name is James Atta Amoah. My friends say I am industrious, creative and one with leadership skills. My type of craft is painting and handicrafts; that is how I joined Novica, and I have been with you for 20 years.

?You have been a great source of help to me and my craft business; I have seen great change. I started with wood carving, but now I am into painting.

?I am also now married with a wonderful family and blessed with three children. I have also attained a degree. There have been challenges, but that has to do with acquiring funding to improve my business. I now have my own company where I do artwork and paintings, and my works are featured on a media page. Thank you, Novica, for the great push.?

Original Artisan Story

James Amoah Atta was born in Aburi, a few miles outside of Accra on April 14, 1973. Being a naturally talented artist, he became intimate with carving in his first years of secondary school. Interestingly, he did some creative work in exchange for a little money during his school years, particularly when on vacation. Sadly, but with bold determinism, Atta worked hard at his gift to see him through school as his father died long before he graduated.

After completing the sixth form Atta started his own studio. Today he sculpts figures, masks, animals, silhouettes and profiles at his studio, Jaks Larry Carving. Working with and training various artisans, he hopes to one day pursue further artistic studies. His primary materials are abundant "sese" wood (Funturria africana), African teak, "twenedua" and ebony.
