This enchanting piece by Ernestina Oppong is adapted from a traditional design of the Dan people of Cote d'Ivoire. Ancient African masks of this type were worn on various occasions, especially used for dancing during festivals and ceremonies. Generally adorned with metal plates on the cheeks and beautiful African symbols, the design features a horn arching high above its head. Hewn from sese wood and painted with blue, white and cream emulsion paints, it makes a wonderful addition to the serious collection.
