Concerned Mothers

Ghanaian artist Derrick Okanta paints this expressive composition in honor of mothers who make sacrifices for the needs of their children and home. Two Ghanaian women with pots on their heads set off for home after a long day at the market. Yet their work has just begun, for there will be hungry mouths to feed when they reach their homes. The figures seem to convey a sense of pride and weariness at the same time.
