Nelson Hernandez and Wendhy Salones from Oaxaca craft this 100% cotton cell phone bag using time-honored Zapotec weaving methods. For the Mexican artisans, creating handicrafts the way their Zapotec ancestors did in their home of Santo Tom√°s Jalieza is something they not only do themselves but also plan to pass on to their children and to others. Says Nelson, 'We dream of being able to contribute to the development of the community...spending time teaching the backstrap loom weaving tradition, something which is being lost in many Santo Tom√°s Jalieza homes.' The compact bag is small enough to be lightweight and easy to carry with the purple shoulder strap but large enough to keep a cell phone, money and keys at hand. Using a backstrap loom, the artisans weave fuchsia, boysenberry, and white threads to make the pouch which is unlined and has a zipper closure.
