Ully from Java creates a long cotton duster replete with global chic style. The long, open jacket is woven by hand using the ikat method, whereby warp and/or weft threads are bound and dyed prior to weaving to create distinctive patterns. The black and grey jacket is the perfect way to add a little drama and sophistication to an outfit. The artisan names her design Kartini, who is a national hero and a pioneer for women's rights in Indonesia.

Due to the hand-dyed and handwoven nature of ikat, patterns or position of motifs may vary from garment to garment, making each a unique work of art. The overall color scheme will remain the same.

Excellent product, beautifully made and the technique of IKAT is a very special, historic one that I am delighted to support and enjoy.

These run a trifle on the small side. Would love to order another when the size becomes available, again.

    Outstanding craftsmanship and design

I am extremely happy with the black Kartini Ikat jacket because it is beautifully woven in the rare and difficult Ikat technique, and it is beautifully cut to be very flattering. Hope to find other clothing of such outstanding quality and exemplifying local techniques that need to be treasured, encouraged, and supported so that they survive and continue.
