The Magic Forest

Brazilian artist Rui de Oliveira painted this original composition as illustration for his picture book Quando Maria Encontrou Jo√£o (When Mary met John). Using the paintings inside to tell a narrative, 'When Mary Met John' conveys a story of love. This painting depicts a magical tree seen throughout the book. Rui paints in a fantastic, expressionist style, realizing the tree with magnificent branches that loop and coil among one another. Beneath the tree, a lone knight rides, hoping to discover the meaning of life among its branches.
