A dazzling Zapotec diamond exudes the vibrant artistry of Mexico's Mario Chavez. Viewed from left to right, each step in the diamond symbolizes a different stage of life beginning with conception. The steps reach a zenith, which is followed by a decrease in energy as life continues into the other world, the world of souls, until rebirth. Each point in the Zapotec diamond represents the cardinal points and their different life energies. Chavez weaves the wool rug on a traditional loom featuring rich colors that are obtained from natural dyes.
