Samuel Davis Apsondaise
Samuel Davis Apsondaise was born in 1981 in Elmiina-Brenu Akyinim, a fishing community in the Central Region of Ghana. He had his basic education at Peace Preparatory and Junior High School, where he developed an interest in drawing, making illustrations for teachers' story books, and illustrations on blackboards as teaching aids.

He continued to Bekwai SDA Senior High School to study Visual Arts, majoring in Picture Making. He then went to Takoradi Technical University, where he also majored in Drawing and Painting, getting exposed to working in watercolors and acrylics. He mounted his first group exhibition in watercolors during this period. He furthered his education at the University of Education Winneba, where he again majored in Picture Making as his first area of study and Sculpture as a second area of study.

He works in acrylic, watercolor, charcoal and pastel. These are the media which enable him to tell his stories well. He always prefers playing with color when working in acrylics, applying them in the impasto fashion to create texture. His preferred tools for working are brushes, palette knives and SIM cards.
In his watercolor paintings, however, he allows the paints to flow into each other, a way of softening tones, while he creates textures by spattering or dry brushing.

His themes include Ghanaian genres, where he depicts everyday life in Ghana and interesting Ghanaian landscapes. This is in line with his artist's statement. "I share my thoughts best with the world by depicting nature on my picture plane."

He gets his inspiration from nature, atmospheric effects, figures in action and interesting natural landmarks.

Samuel's working name is 'Siisi.' Currently he teaches art at St. John's Grammar Senior High School in Achimota, Accra.
