Rita Addo Zakour demonstrates her creative skills with this elegant wall plaque depicting an African mask. Carved by hand, the face represents a woman. The artisan names the piece Afia, which means 'born on Friday' in the Twi language, spoken by the Akan people. 'As a present, this mask is given to a mother who gives birth on a Friday, as a way of congratulating her for a safe delivery. This is mostly practiced by the Ashanti tribe,' the Ghanaian artisan says. She presents the mask on a ceramic plaque.
