He carves Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus, as well as a chicken and a toucan from pinewood. Each figure is painted by hand; Joseph and Mary wear typical clothing of Chichicastenango. Jesus is removable from his cradle and Joseph can hold his walking stick in either hand.
